We already have some futureshifted cards from Future Sight leaked and everyone’s thoughts are just about: “What is that?”, I’m talking of course of the futureshifted frames:

These frames are only temporary, remember they are the product from a possible future and as such may not be the standard face in the future. With that said I’ll begin my analysis of this frame (it’s my personal opinion about these frames, you may of course disagree with it), first generally speaking and then by the points shown on the image.
I like the fact that the face colors are more distinguishable than in the current card face, which sometimes gives me headaches trying to sort out which colour a certain card is, I also think the rounded borders feel more stylish and don’t interfere with the card.
On to a trip along the card:
1. This is a card type symbol, it allows for an easy recognition of a card type (i.e.: when cards are fanned in hand) for more advanced players and isn’t intrusive for newer players. Overall it’s a nice addition.
2. I like the white type, I don’t understand the change to black type in the first place, as I think white is much more visible than black. Seeing the current frames have such a light color on the card name space it’s understandable why it is black, but that just bring us back to the problem of the card color itself being much more difficult to recognize at first glance.
3. I hate this little thingy hanging here. I’s fricking covering awesome card art, that is in most cases why we checked out magic in the first place. STOP COVERING MY ART YOU PIECE OF CRAP CARD FRAME ANOMALY! That said I like the little colored dot remembering you what color the card is.
4. I’m still to understand high tech symbols on a fantasy game frame. Besides, these symbols don’t stand out from the rest of the card such as the current ones, so an important part of the card was made much less visible, I can only see that as a flaw.
5. Ok, we have nice slot thingies here on the left for the mana cost, great for when we have the cards fanned in our hand, but IT’S FRICKIN’ COVERING MY ARTWORK AGAIN! WHY? Seriously, I understand all the “We want to add style and make the frame more dynamic”, but why cover the artwork? To all those people ou there saying “OMG only six slots, we’ll never see Nicol Bolas again!”, get real. 6 slots is more than enough for most cards, and for others I guess solutions could be arranged (see how the slots go way down, covered by the transparent card type box and the card text box?).
6. Transparent boxes can cover the art anytime! That’s a very cool effect in my opinion, making the art larger and at the same time not wasting all the space with it. (Sorry about the inquest watermark, that’s the only decently scanned image I could find)
7. Nothing to say about this, a nice slot for expansion symbols.
8. And now you ask “What’s wrong with this? I don’t see anything!”, exactly! It’s empty. Too empty. The artist name and copyright could be here instead of cluttering up the right side of the frame.
So the point is: Is it a nice frame? Yes, but if this turns out to be a standard card face some day it will need some improvements.
Seeing as you’re already here, check out more cards from FS:
